He is the first yachtsman to sail solo non-stop round the world in both directions and complete five circumnavigations The Rescue of Alex Thomson on the Velux 5 Oceans Race 2006/7 Alex Thomson ( Hugo Boss) and Mike Golding (Ecover) were two of the three entries – the other being one rather notable Sir Robin Knox Johnson ( Saga) in the V5O solo race around the world from Bilbao to Bilbao with just two stops in Fremantle and Norfolk USA. After a tough start in storm force conditions one by one each of the Brits were forced to stop and after restarting in Spain.
