Winter Series

Races 5 and 6 took place in a light and slightly variable Northerly breeze, its strength went from below 4 knots to more than 12 which lead to a slightly foreshortened day!

With The Hound setting up station in the vicinity of the Royal Southampton Buoy a Windward/Leeward course, of two rounds, was laid toward the Weston Shore at just under 0.7nm.

It was good to have Andy Hamilton’s J 122 R&W join us in Class 1 and show a clear transom to Magec, sailed by Mike Garvey with William Bridge’s Fusion IV third. Class 2 was won by the Mystery 30 owned by Bob Gardner, and she was able to mix it with the Class 1 boats!

Thanks to Wales beating France in the Rugby World Cup Gwynne Lewis’ Dehler 32, Aura, managed to join in for Race 6. This one was a Triangle/Sausage shape giving a slightly testing reach down the Hythe shore. The windward leg was shortened from Race 5, as the wind went light, but it eventually what the forecast had said and increased to 10 to 12 knots so the race was a bit short. Having said that R&W won by more than two minutes on corrected time from Magec with Aura another 6 and a bit minutes behind in third place.

So Magec and Enigma go into the final two races in the lead of their respective Classes, we look forward to the final!
