Recreational Sailing for young sailors

The RSYC Trust is keen to keep young people who have been sailing with the Trust active on the water during the winter months and has arranged for those with RYA Level 3 and above totake advantage of Recreational Sailing sessions at Southampton Water Activities Centre until the end of November.

Recreational sailing is the perfect way to gain experienc eand time on the water after completing Youth Stage 3 or 4 in a safe, supervised way. Friendly instructors are on hand to answer questions, offer top tips and solve any problems afloat. Check out the sailing fleet and find out what’s for you to sail.

Costs for cadets £10.00

It's worth mentioning that recreational sailing is different to onboard - it's under the cover of a safety boat driver but there will not beany tuition. Effectively young sailors will be doing everything themselves from rigging to launching and so on. Of course the safety boat driver and the duty manager of the day is there to help if any problems orhints and tips needed but as there's usually a few boats launching at one time hey cannot support sailors who'll need instruction, as one safety boat canlook after up to 12 boats.

The sessions are Saturdays and Sundays from October 26 until November 30. There will be two sessions per day 09.00 until 12.00 and 13.00 until 16.00.

The Club will be issuing vouchers for these sessions and ask that you book with SWAC prior to any session and you take the voucher to SWAC when you attend. You will also need to ensure that you have acurrent medical/consent Form at SWAC or take a signed form with you when you go.

If any of the Club’s cadets or young people would like to attend the sesessions please contact Sailing Secretary Lisa Topley on

Recreational Sailing starts again in February 2020.
